Amelia Gray Hamlin's Secret to a Perfectly Contoured Lip (2025)

Amelia Gray Hamlin is no stranger to beauty. After all, she grew up with Lisa Rinna as a mother. So it's no surprise that some of her favorite makeup formulas are tried-and-true products from her mother's makeup drawer, like MAC's Lipglass. Now, the 23-year-old model is starring in MAC's latest campaign alongside Rinna to celebrate the brand's iconic glossy lip. While Hamlin and her mother share a love for some of the same makeup items, the model has developed her own makeup style, preferences, and techniques over the years. “I feel more confident in cool-toned makeup," Hamlin tells Bazaar, as she pulls out five cool-toned lip liners from MAC out of her bag.

Ahead, we caught up with Hamlin to take a peek inside her beauty kit and learn about her favorite (some vintage) makeup products.

What is your first memory of MAC? How does it feel to be a part of this new campaign?

MAC has just always been the dream. I have journals where I write down my manifestations and dreams, some of which I’ve had for about 10 years, and MAC has been in them many times. When you love something so much and it’s so organic, it makes you want to do it 10 times more. That’s rare these days, because beauty and fashion are such oversaturated spaces. My first memory of MAC is using the Lip Glass. I remember the little tube, and it looks the same today. My mom had all these drawers of makeup when I was growing up—she only ever used MAC lipsticks. There’s something very nostalgic about the smell to me, that vanilla scent takes me back. My first memory as an adult was when I was 15 and I would go to the MAC counter at the airports to get the Biege Turner and Oak Lip Liners because they were always sold out in stores. During the first two years of my career, every time I had my makeup done by my makeup artist, we would always look at each other, knowing we would use MAC Oak. So, MAC has a special place in my heart, and I'm very honored to be part of the MAC family now, with my mom, my actual family.

What's one product you can't live without?

I always use this MAC circular contour stick that was cool-toned from the ‘90s that all the girlies buy on eBay. I was lucky enough to get mine from a makeup artist on set one day after she was using it on me. I put it on my eyes, cheeks, and sometimes lips. I’ll put my Lip Glass on top in a brown shade. Nobody is allowed to use it—just me. Please bring it back, MAC!

How many lipsticks or liners do you have in your bag at all times?

Let me check. I see a Lip Glass Air and five MAC Lip Liners. I have grayish colors for my girls’ night out when I'm feeling like my dark, feminine self. I'll line with Stone and then use Greige. I also have two Oaks in here because, duh, it’s Oak. You can just always play around with Oak and put it anywhere. These [liners] are my life. I do not go anywhere without all of those.

Are you team primer or no primer?

I don't know what primer is. Well, I guess I know what it is, but I feel like it suffocates your pores. I also don’t wear makeup enough to need it. It’s really for a nine-to-five makeup day.

How about setting spray?

Setting spray is very important. I’ve only ever used the Huda Beauty one in the silver packaging or the Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray. My mom always puts the Charlotte one in my stocking for Christmas. The only thing I'm buying is lip liner—five of them to be exact.

What are your thoughts on blush?

I'm new to blush, but it excites me these days. I was very anti-blush for a very long time, especially when I bleached my eyebrows. But then something shifted, and I realized how important blush is—also how important the color of blush is. I think it’s a misconception that there should be one universal color of blush for everybody. An orange, pink, or red all create such different looks. I think blush will make or break a look. I don't think it's for every occasion, though. The first blush I ever used was the Rhode blush in Toasted Teddy, but it always wipes off after a minute. It’s one of those things you have to reapply. That was cool for my beginning blush journey, but now that I'm confident in my blush abilities, I've been mixing a few Pat McGrath blushes.

Who is your biggest makeup inspiration?

Gabbriette is my biggest makeup inspiration. Also, she is in the MAC family, so it just makes so much sense for me to say her. I was with her the other day, and she asked me what was on my lips because she forgot her lipliner. It was the contour stick, and she was trying to understand what the product was. As the internet now knows, we have very similar facial structures, so we both kind of play into the cool tone vibe. My mom has obviously been like my tried-and-true first makeup inspiration since day one. I mean, she was the first person who got me interested in makeup because of those drawers. My mom was always applying lip gloss. We would spend hours doing our makeup, and she would give us all these lipsticks to play with. She was very kind to give us MAC—I would not give my kid that. It’s cool I get to work with MAC because she's the reason I was ever actually interested in the brand in the first place.

What is your skin type?

I don't know what my skin type is, but I am always putting oil on my face, and my skin absorbs it in two seconds. I use the Josh Rosebrook Active Infusion Oil with retinol and Vitamin C a couple of days a week. It’s very low-key. The girlies don’t know about it. Then, I use their rich Vital Balm Cream during the day.

What kind of concealer and foundation do you use?

Plot twist: I don’t use foundation. I use a tinted sunscreen that one of my makeup artists showed me and mix it with Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter. For concealer, I use the Kylie Cosmetics ones.
